WHAT SHEPHERDS ARE SAYING

Prior to joining Standing Stone as a field shepherd, I spent twenty-seven years as a pastor. During that time, I saw and did almost everything a pastor could. It was both amazing and incredibly difficult.

I had the remarkable privilege of receiving mentoring and soul care during the toughest times in my life, times I might have left ministry prematurely. Now, as a field shepherd, I get to provide that same life-changing help to church leaders.

Because of Standing Stone, I’m free from the administrative details required of a staff pastor; I get to do what matters most: support those leading God’s church.

After thirty years of serving God in full-time ministry, our work became more and more depleting and difficult every day. We continually felt alone in our service and began to explore the ministry of presence.

What would it have looked like if someone had actively pursued and walked with us? Bottom line: It would have made all the difference to us!! Now we long to be that difference for others. We pursue, listen, pray, walk with, and help sustain as many as the Lord brings our way.

Standing Stone provides us with the opportunity to practice this ministry of presence, along with shepherds across the globe, by holding up the arms of the next generation of those called to serve Jesus.

My years of pastoring a church were hard. Even the exciting times took a toll on me and my family as well. When I heard about Standing Stone, I learned that my struggles are the reality for practically every pastor.

This brought me some much needed reassurance that I wasn’t alone but almost simultaneously It dawned on me that our pastors are all struggling.

The more I learned about the mission the more I wanted to be a part of the solution to this all to normal struggle.

Here at Standing Stone Ministry I have found a place where God has taken so much of my ministry pain and is using it to bring relief and reassurance to other Pastors I have the honor of connecting with.

OUR STORY

Elder man and woman couple in nice clothes smile for the reader.

After three generations of their family experiencing the pain and devastation of losing their pastors to burnout or infidelity, Jim and Debbie Hogan felt God’s call to create a ministry designed to strengthen and encourage ministry couples. As a result, Standing Stone was founded in 2002 in Chromo, Colorado at the Hogan’s log home on the Navajo River. Now 18 years later, Standing Stone has a national reach and is committed to caring for and serving ministry couples who need to be supported, understood, and encouraged to find the appropriate balance for thriving while facing their unique set of challenges.

WHAT PASTORS & WIVES
SAY ABOUT OUR SHEPHERDS

For the first time my wife was able to connect with someone who really understands the daily stress of the expectations our congregation puts on her and our family.

Your vision for ministry has not only blessed our lives, but will be a blessing to the lives of those we reach.

It was clear to see the driving force behind this mentoring couple was integrity, along with an open heart to what the Holy Spirit would do through them.

Absolutely! We already have both female Shepherds and husband/wife Retreat Shepherd teams at Standing Stone. We highly value women who desire to care for pastors’ wives and women in ministry; to provide a safe harbor where these women can process their personal issues and challenges confidentially and safely.

Yes. Standing Stone is a faith-financed ministry, which means that we trust God and depend on the generosity of donors such as individuals, churches or other organizations to support each of our Shepherds. If on-going financial support is needed, it is the responsibility of each Shepherd to build a team that financially supports their work with Standing Stone, allowing them to concentrate on their ministry. Building a financial support team is addressed in the training that each incoming Shepherd receives from Standing Stone.

You will be asked to sign a partnership agreement that will be renewed each year if mutually agreed upon. This yearly agreement can end early based on written notification by the Shepherd and/or Standing Stone.
